Final CA I Simple Polygon

Modeled a simple character with basic legs to learn the basics of a walk, jump, and turn. Remember, it's all about the weight!

I avoid writing on my blog to keep it less cheesy as possible (even though it's probably cheesy already) but I figured I should share things I've learned to my blog viewers for educational growth and/or personal if applicable so here it goes: This jump was a funny one. I  learned along the way in animation that tweening and counter animating was a big no-no (and me being me equals going for the rules no matter what). So the first draft of this jump consisted of the feet offsetting when pushing up from the ground (a way to break tweening) by having one foot lead the other as the body lifted up and, if I remember correctly, had no lid animation as of yet because counter animation was wrong so there must have been something wrong with the way the lid was parented and I was going to address the problem to the professor. Once I showed the play-blast in class, however, guess what my notes were? Tween the feet on the jump and yes, counter animate the lid because of the rig set up. I was blown away how these golden rules were so easily thrown out the window! So with this simple jump excersice, I have realized that animation rules are but guide lines and though the 12 rules should be kept close to the heart, they should not dictate what animation can or cannot do. So in conclusion, I can't wait to go back to Ringling next semester to bring characters to life and to surprise myself with the intentional and necessary "outlaws" I will have to commit for the sake of better and better animation! God help me with my endeavors. May it not become my pride but bring glory to your Holy name, Amen.

Im happy how this turned out. Kinda slapped some color here and there and it seemed like it worked.

Some preliminary thinking and process before starting a project to a story that was given to us in class.

Dog Walk Realistic

This is an exercise where one becomes familiar with the mechanics of a quadruped walk.
But I cannot emphasize enough how imperative it is to pray before starting an endeavor. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6: 33

So that's that.... now enjoy!

First Maya Characters

Primitive NURBS Characters Dun dun dun!

Mr. Snowman, Sandovaldo, and Swimmer Dude, respectively. These characters were made using Maya with only simple NURBS. They were only squashed, stretched, scaled, and rotated. I did not pull any one point to create more interesting shapes because, well, it is the first day of class and we didn't learn it yet. Sure I could go ahead and learn how to do it but let's take baby steps and soak up little bits of info at a time.

Meanwhile, enjoy these.

Test Dummy

Learned better blending of color to sculpt 3D shapes in a 2D surface and how to achieve definition/sharpness of form and line.
A Test Dummy: literally and figuratively.

Draw II Character Room

I'm not a big fan of posting things not completely original aka the assignment for Draw II which was to invent a room/office/place for an already existing character; but nevertheless, for the sake of documenting my work and personal growth, here it is.

This was actually one of the first ever serious works I've done through digital painting. I've dabbled here and there with digital paint and I've done test projects. I have to say I am pretty happy on how this turned out.

Clothed Figure Final

Our Assignment was to study the figure with clothes and create a narrative out of it by pushing the pose , developing a background, and props. Anything to drive a story forward.

Character Back Story:This modern day young mid twenties man has just been hired as the new bellhop for a luxurious hotel in Miami Beach. It is a busy morning and many guests arrive at the same time and leave our bellhop hero with all the heavy luggage to carry. It’s no problem for the bellhop, however, he can take the elevator and finish the job in no time.
Pressing the elevator button, our favorite employee senses something funny about the situation: the elevator button is not lighting up and the elevator is taking far too long to arrive. As he looks around he sees his fellow hotel workers looking at him with a grin on their face. The old tall waiter with heavy brows points his skinny finger to the good old flight of never-ending stairs next to the elevator.
Now it’s time for the “new guy” to prove himself worthy and gain acceptance among his fellow hotel employees.
